How to refresh /dev/disk on Linux

To refresh /dev/disk/by-label or /dev/disk/by-uuid on Linux (tested on Ubuntu Hardy), run 
sudo udevadm trigger
and wait a few seconds. It's OK that the system becomes unresponsive for 5 seconds.
